Major ‘Green’ Carpeting Contract For Kevin Bates
This article has been supplied.
Kevin Bates Flooring & Carpeting has supplied and installed about 17 000 square metres of Interface sustainable carpet tiles for the new Worley Parsons office RSA block in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg.
The Worley Parsons office block is a new development by Amdec, constructed by main contractor, Basil Read. It has eight office floors with a total leasable area of almost 24 000 square metres and accommodates 1 600 staff members. The interior designer for the building who specified the Interface carpeting was LYT Architecture, with a team consisting of director, Sarah Mentis; senior designer, Debbie Bland; and designer, James Rautenbach; handling the specification which called for the Interface Weave, Colour Me, Finsbury Square, and Raw ranges of carpet tiles.
Kevin Bates Flooring & Carpeting is the sole South African distributor of Interface, the world’s largest carpet tile producer and environmental pioneer in its field. Interface – whose head office is in the Netherlands - is currently operating with 100% renewable energy, using virtually no water in its manufacturing processes. Interface already in the mid-90s pledged to totally eliminate its impact on the environment by 2020 and is already halfway towards this “Mission Zero” which influences every aspect of its business and inspires the company to continually push the boundaries.
